IFMA Foundation 2013 Facility Management Scholarship Program

The IFMA Foundation is announcing the 2013 FM Student Scholarships Program. These scholarships will be awarded to the highly qualified FM students at the 2013 World Workplace in Philadelphia, Pa, October 3, 2013.

In 2012, the IFMA Foundation set records for FM student scholarships — an all time high of USD $167,200 in total was awarded to 43 FM students from around the world!

The FM Scholarship Program is a great offering to deserving FM students that demonstrate exceptional educational work and activities. The FM Scholarship Program is not only a great way to support the FM profession and the IFMA Foundation, but can also:

  • Bring an added level of exposure to your chapter, council, company or FM organization; and
  • Offer a way to pay tribute to those who have gone above and beyond in service by naming the scholarship in their honor.

Your chapter, council, company or organization can offer a scholarship through the IFMA Foundation in a number of ways:

  • A one-time scholarship donation.
  • An annual scholarship with funds provided by your organization through fundraisers, locally managed investments, etc.
  • Establishment of a scholarship fund within the IFMA Foundation.

All scholarships granted through the Foundation must be a minimum of US$1,500, plus US$1,500 to allow the student to attend IFMA’s World Workplace and for travel, meals, accommodations and other Foundation expenses related to the program. Students and scholarship sponsors are recognized at the annual education reception at World Workplace, and are published in the award-winning Facility Management Journal, Foundation newsletter, Foundation gala program, press releases, Foundation website and other outlets.

The 2013 scholarship process has been launched! If your organization has offered a scholarship in the past, we’ll be in touch to confirm your participation this year.

Important 2013 scholarship dates and deadlines can be found in the IFMA Foundation website under the Scholarship and Grants pull down menu.

If you would like to offer a scholarship in 2013, please contact Jeffrey J. Tafel, CAE, Executive Director, IFMA Foundation at jeff.tafel@ifma.org or 281-974-5600.

If you have any questions, please contact Steve Lockwood, Director Academic Affairs, IFMA Foundation at steve.lockwood@ifma.org or 281-974-5601.

Scholarships

Providing scholarships enhances the IFMA Foundation's mission to identify, fund and promote education and research for the advancement of facility management. The future of the profession is heavily dependent upon those preparing to enter the field of facility management and supporting deserving students to ensure the quality of built environment in a changing world.

Made possible by donations from endowments and individual contributions funded by individuals, corporations, IFMA chapters and IFMA councils, scholarships are available annually to graduate and undergraduate students pursuing degrees in facility management or related fields. In addition to the scholarship, sponsors provide recipients the means to attend World Workplace where they can take advantage of the opportunity to network with others in the FM community.

IFMA Foundation scholarships are awarded based on merit and certain applicant restrictions and/or qualification requirements may apply.

Funding for Scholarships

Scholarship applicants are solicited in late January of each year and awarded at World Workplace in October. Scholarships provided through the IFMA Foundation are set at a minimum of $1,500 (US) and also include payment for the recipient to attend IFMA's World Workplace event.

Travel to World Workplace

In addition to receiving a scholarship, each recipient is flown to IFMA's World Workplace. While at the conference, recipients participate in a scholarship awards ceremony and IFMA Foundation Education Reception in addition to attending the valuable FM related sessions at World Workplace. This opportunity to attend World Workplace also affords recipients the opportunity to network and make vital contacts with professionals in the industry.

Grants

The IFMA Foundation is very excited to be able to offer funds to the facility management community through the Continuing Education Grant and the World Workplace Grant. All instructions and eligibility requirements can be found by clicking the respective application link below:

The funds securing these grants were made available by the David Beverly fund. This fund was established in 2007 after David was tragically killed by a co-worker at the Johnson Space Center. It is the hope of the director of these funds that they will be used to help the careers of facility professionals now and well into the future.

Established in 1990 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, the IFMA Foundation works for the public good to promote research and educational opportunities for the advancement of facility management. The IFMA Foundation is supported by the generosity of the facility management community, including IFMA members, chapters, councils, corporate sponsors and private contributors who are united by the belief that education and research improve the facility management profession.
