IFMA Foundation to Determine Wireless Technologies' Effect
on the Facility Management Profession
Frequently, decisions regarding technology are made at the executive
level, with the effects of these decisions felt by all employees.
As a result, facility-management professionals are often asked to
implement new technology as soon as it becomes available -- even
if they don’t have a solid understanding of that technology.
A new study by the IFMA Foundation, a non-profit organization working
to promote research and educational opportunities for the advancement
of the facility-management profession, soon will identify how wireless
technologies affects facility management. The study will take into
consideration wireless technologies relating to: audio, video, e-mail,
the Internet, data, construction, design and furnishings.
The results of the study will be released in conjunction with the
International Facility Management Association’s 2005 World
Workplace Conference and Expo in Philadelphia this October.
“Part of the IFMA Foundation’s mission is to promote
research for the advancement of facility management. The results
of this wireless technology research will assist and enrich facility
managers in their quest to provide a quality built environment,”
said Sam W. Davidson, CFM, IFMA Foundation Chair.
Baker Robbins & Company, a full-service, independent technology
consulting company, will produce the study and accompanying white
paper. The study is being partially funded by Allsteel, a company
that designs, builds and delivers workplace furniture solutions
with advanced functionality and lifetime durability.
Established in 1990 as a non-profit, 501(c) (3) corporation, and
