IFMA Foundation Research Report Provides Fresh Look at LEED-EB Facility Management
The IFMA Foundation, a non-profit corporation providing education, research and scholarships for the benefit of facility management professionals and students, released a research report providing a fresh look at the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System for Existing Buildings (EB) and facility management professionals’ roles in sustainability.
The research report, Deliver the Green, prepared by Leonardo Academy Inc., is an overview of the best opportunities available for incorporating sustainability principles into existing buildings including the related costs and benefits.
Facility managers practicing green operations and maintenance in their buildings offer their insights in the report in regards to the best sustainable opportunities. These areas of opportunity involve using the rating system as a framework for successful facility operation and upgrades; implementing energy and water conservation measures; creating healthy indoor environments; purchasing sustainable products; practicing preventive maintenance; managing and documenting sustainable building operations; and communicating sustainability goals, procedures and achievements.
The report also includes case studies about JohnsonDiversey headquarters in Sturtevant, Wis., and General Dynamics C4 Systems facility in Scottsdale, Ariz. The two facilities have earned the LEED-EB rating.
"In order to keep the profession informed of new developments in the industry, ongoing research is essential. The IFMA Foundation funded this report because the topic is of interest to so many in the facility management community," said William Rub, IFMA Foundation executive director.
Sponsors of the report include the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments, Honda, Pacific Building Care Inc., and the IFMA Foundation Corporate Circle of Contributors.
Deliver the Green is available on the IFMA Foundation Web site, www.ifmafoundation.org.
Established in 1990 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, and separate entity from the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), the IFMA Foundation works for the public good to promote priority research and educational opportunities for the advancement of facility management. The IFMA Foundation is supported by the generosity of the FM community including IFMA members, chapters, councils, corporate sponsors and private contributors who share the belief that education and research improve the FM profession.
