Southwest Symposium
The Lighter Side of Phoenix
Spring time is a great time to visit Phoenix, Arizona! The Greater Phoenix Chapter of IFMA is hosting the 2010 Southwest Symposium (The lighter side of Phoenix) April 28th – 30th, 2010. With the opening of the mass transit light rail system in December 2008, the symposium organizers recognized there was a great opportunity to highlight the buildings along the route of new transit system. This event will combine educational and networking opportunities for Facilities Managers and other interested professionals. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the IFMA Foundation to help underwrite their ongoing efforts to improve the facility management profession.
We kick off the event on Wednesday, April 28 with a networking function to be held at multiple downtown venues!
In store for April 29 are tours of Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the new LEED Silver Convention Center, Arizona Science Museum and The Orpheum Theater. Each tour will be “back of the house”, giving facility managers an opportunity to benchmark issues to specific types of facilities. There will also be opportunities for CEU credits during breakfast, lunch and a late afternoon session. But don’t forget the networking; a dinner with all of the Symposium participants will be held at the host hotel.
Finally, Thursday April 30th will begin with a networking breakfast and tour of the Phoenix Art Museum. We will then tour buildings along the light rail; stopping at each building to get points of interest; guided by the respective building manager. Our last building stop along the tour will be a CEU accredited lunch.
If you want to extend your trip to Arizona – Friday May 1st – Sunday May 3rd; The Prescott USGBC chapter will provide tours of their area and buildings showcased in the recent successful Phoenix Greenbuild Convention & Trade Show. There will also be some great options for weekend trips to Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon
